Paragon pulls the plug on TCW magazine
Paragon Publishing has announced that its monthly Trading Card World magazine is to cease publication. A spokesperson for the company told Card Zine that the magazine had been "put on hold" and confirmed that it was unlikely there would be any further issues. Whilst the title never reached the level of detail offered by US rival Non-Sport Update, TCW was an important publication for UK collectors in that it was the only magazine solely dedicated to trading cards that was readily available on the news stand. It also provided an easy way of obtaining promo cards designed for UK distribution. The title began publishing a little over a year ago.
TCW's closure follows that of several other UK magazines relating to cards. The Card Crazy magazine and price guide, which was available via subscription and through dealers, seems to be defunct. Future Publishing's CCG title, Deckmaster, which was launched shortly after TCW lasted just a few issues. It appears that at least for the time being, print coverage of card related news in the UK will be restricted to general collectables magazines, such as Trinity's Model & Collectors Mart and Titan's Memorabilia.
