The Artwork of Boris & Julie: Strokes of Genius - Comic Images (USA)

Comic Images recently released a new collection of trading cards featuring the work of artists Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell. The Artwork of Boris & Julie: Strokes of Genius boasts a 72 card basic set, with collectors being treated to images not seen in previous series. The vast majority of the cards feature artwork based on the themes of fantasy, mythology and the human form. Included in the collection are images painted by Boris and Julie for books, comics and Knightstone Collection memorabilia, together with a selection of pencil drawings and concept sketches. The card backs give the image titles, alongside short paragraphs covering subjects such as the inspiration for the paintings or art techniques.

Inserts for the series are six silver foil cards, three Boris autograph cards, three Julie autograph cards and a one-per-case redemption card for a limited edition print signed by Boris worth over $150. In our box, we found three of the foil cards, which feature pencil drawings, and one Julie autograph card (A5, shown above). In addition, we were able to make up three complete sets of the basic cards, so colation was superb.

Comic Images has also created a special Boris & Julie binder, in which to house the collection. This comes supplied with a six-card uncut sheet. Two promo cards (P1 and P2) were produced for the set. The Artwork of Boris & Julie: Strokes of Genius trading cards are available in the UK through specialist dealers. Packs contain seven cards, with 36 packs making up a display box. This series is up to Comic Images' usual high standard and is certainly one that fantasy art fans will want in their collections.
