Shrek 2 - Comic Images (USA)

Comic Images recently released trading cards for the second Shrek animated film. The collection is comprised of a 72-card basic set, which features sub-series profiling the main characters in Shrek 2 and retelling the film story. The card fronts are given over entirely to one image from the film, meaning that collectors really get to see the level of detail of the computer animation. The backs display a different, smaller image against green and orange Shrek colours.

Comic Images has an additional three levels of insert cards for this release, these being six foil cards, autographed cards and original sketch cards. Our box contained three of the foil cards, which show characters against shiny silver backgrounds. The autographs and sketch cards are obtained through redemptions. Those who have signed for this set are Conrad Vernon and Kelly Asbury, and there is a single redemption card which can be sent away to obtain one of these autographs. Although we did not find such a card in our box, we did find the redemption card for a Sketch card. The redemption features a close-up image of Donkey on the front.

Shrek 2 trading cards are sold in packs containing seven cards, with 36 packs per box. In addition to the inserts, our box contained two sets of the base cards. Card Zine is great fan of trading cards relating to animation and we really enjoyed this new set.
