Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed - Inkworks (USA)
Collectors who enjoyed Inkworks' card series based on the original Scooby Doo movie will want to get their hands on this new release from the company, which features scenes from the second film in the series, Monsters Unleashed. The new movie sees the Mystery Inc. gang do battle with several of the monsters from the original cartoon series. Inkworks profiles the monsters, along with the other major characters from the film, in its 72 card basic set. Also included is a complete guide to the movie story, Cluetopia cards featuring the clues the gang use to solve the mystery and a postcards sub-series showing the various locations from the film.
In terms of insert cards, Inkworks have included nine Monsters Unleashed foil puzzle cards, which fit together to form a large picture of Mystery Inc. and the monsters (1:11 packs, we found three in our box), three Mystery Inc. foil cards (1:17 packs, these show cartoon artwork of the gang against foil featuring holographic circles; we particularly enjoyed the two that we found in our box), autographed cards (1 per box, we found a redemption card for an Alicia Silverstone auto) and Pieceworks costume cards (1 per box, we found part of Sarah Michelle Gellar's top). The other signers for this release are Matthew Lillard (Shaggy), Linda Cardellini (Velma), Scott McNeil (Evil Masked Figure), C. Ernst Harth (Miner '49er) Pat O'Brian (himself) and Kevin Durand (Black Knight Ghost). The other Pieceworks cards feature the jacket and trousers worn by Sarah Michelle Gellar (Daphne), jacket, t-shirt and jeans worn by Freddie Prinze Jr. (Fred), jacket, shirt and trousers worn by Matthew Lillard (Shaggy) and the top, sweater and jumpsuit worn by Linda Cardellini (Velma). Three box loaders and one case loader complete the insert line-up.
A Monsters Unleashed binder in which to store the collection and a limited edition uncut press sheet of the foil puzzle cards are also available. Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed is being sold in seven card packs, with 36 packs in each display box. We made two basic sets from our box. All the cards in this collection have a bright, colourful retro feel. Whilst the series will certainly appeal to younger collectors, there is plenty here to satisfy those who are more established.
