PeopleCards Premier Edition - PeopleCards (USA)
A new US manufacturer has released its first series of trading cards based on the lives of ordinary people. PeopleCards Premier Edition is made up of 120 regular sized cards showing images of people from all walks of life. Amongst those featured are a student, art restorer, butcher, sales director and actor.
On the back of each card is a profile in which the person depicted answers a series of questions about themselves. Basic information such as name, hometown and occupation are provided, together with a list of favourites. Topics covered here might include the person's favourite books, movies, foods, hobbies and web sites. The profile is rounded off with a themographics section, which provides further information.
As well as the regular cards, PeopleCards Premier Edition includes a series of fifteen ArtCard inserts featuring the work of independent artists. On the back of each card, the artist explains their work and the influences behind it.
"While our PeopleCards are different in subject matter from anything else on the market, we do believe that collectors will enjoy them along with many others who have never been interested in trading cards", says company president Brant Herman. The PeopleCards web site, as well as providing information about the series, offers collectors the chance to find out more about the people on the cards. Site visitors can themselves apply to be featured in future PeopleCards releases.
The Premier Edition is being sold in packs containing seven regular PeopleCards and one ArtCard. PeopleCards guarantees that at least one complete set of PeopleCards and ArtCards can be found in each 24-pack sealed display box. The PepleCards concept works extremely well and makes for a series that is both interesting to read and collect. Card Zine cannot wait to see whether the cards become available to collectors in the UK.
