Burger King releases exclusive cards for
The Lord of the Rings
Burger King is currently running a Lord of the Rings promotion with its kids meals in the UK. Included with each meal is a box featuring Lord of the Rings graphics which opens to reveal a plastic figurine of one of the film's characters together with a collectable card. The cards are similar in style to the Film Cardz produced by Artbox for licences such as the Simpsons and feature an acetate cel surrounded by a cardboard border. Each card relates to the character figurine that accompanies it. The borders on the front of the cards feature the name of the character depicted, together with the Lord of the Rings and Burger King logos. The numbered backs display copyright information.
Although there are only eight figurines to collect (these being Legolas, Gandalf, Arwen, Strider, Galadriel, Gimli, Ringwraiths, Frodo and Saruman), there are 27 cards. We would therefore imagine that each character has been assigned three different cards.
The release of the Burger King set follows news that the Lord of the Rings Film Cardz series planned by Artbox itself has been cancelled, something which appears to have disappointed many collectors. The Artbox set, which promised a Lord of the Rings prize competition and special offer, was even scheduled for an official UK release.
