Pokémon - Burger King promotion (UK)

April saw Burger King unveil its Pokémon Kids Club promotion to collectors in the UK. The promotion, designed to coincide with the release of Pokémon: The First Movie in UK cinemas, was similar to one run by Burger King restaurants in the States towards the end of last year. 57 Pokémon toys and 151 trading cards were available to collect, with one toy and one card being given away with each Kids Club meal. The trading cards are the same size as regular cards and depict each of the first 151 Pokémon characters. Card fronts feature an image of the individual Pokémon character, along with details of its weight and height and a trivia question. On the back of each card is one of ten "Collectible Movie Scenes" from the first Pokémon movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back.

In May, Burger King began to give away uncut sheets of the trading cards with its Kids Club meals. Each sheet, or "Master Trainer Collector Set", features nine cards separated by perforations. A checklist for the twenty different uncut sheets produced can be found by following the link at the bottom at the bottom of this page.

Burger King also produced a series of six limited edition gold-plated trading cards, which were available for £2.49 each with the purchase of any everyday value adult's meal. Each card features an individual Pokémon character (the six designs available were Charizard, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Polliwhirl, Mewtwo and Togepi) and comes presented in its own Poké Ball.
