Andromeda: Reign of the Commonwealth - Inkworks (USA)
Inkworks starts 2004 with a new series of cards dedicated to Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda sci-fi drama. The company's first Andromeda trading cards, released back in 2001, covered the show's first season. This new 90 card collection is unique in that it looks back at the highlights of season one and offers detailed episode coverage of seasons two and three. There is also a single season four preview card, which summarises events so far. Inkworks rounds off the basic set with cards dedicated to 'Tomorrow's Technology' featuring Andromeda vehicles and weapons and behind-the-scenes information.
Collectors will also enjoy the various bonus insert cards included with this release, these being six Battle for the Commonwealth foil puzzle cards (1:11 packs, numbered BC-1 to BC-6, we found three in our box), six Fragile Allegiances foil cards depicting the crew of Andromeda (1:17 packs, numbered FA-1 to FA-6, we found two), six actor autographed cards (one per box) and six Pieceworks costume cards (one per box). Our autograph card was signed by Lexa Doig, who plays Andromeda. Others who have signed cards are Kevin Sorbo, Lisa Ryder, Steve Bacic, Laura Bertram and Gordan Michael Woolvett. Our Pieceworks card features part of the jacket worn by Kevin Sorbo on the show. The other costume cards feature Lisa Ryder's top from seasons one and two, Lisa Ryder's season three top, Gordan Michael Woolvett's shirt, Laura Bertram's outfit and Lexa Doig's top. In addition, three box-loader foil cards featuring the woman of Andromeda (1 per box) and one foil die-cut case loader card (one per case). Inkworks has also produced a limited edition uncut sheet of the foil card puzzle and a collector's storage album.
Andromeda: Reign of the Commonwealth trading cards are sold in seven card packs, with 36 packs in each display box. Card Zine was able to make up two complete basic sets. With stacks of information on the show and great design, this series looks set to be a sci-fi collector's delight.
